We, the Germans, arrived at Greifswald harbor at 4 o’ clock. The Polish were already there when we came, and the Lithuanians came shortly after. We brought all the science stuff and our luggage on board and started discovering the boat. The Lovis! It’s a pretty big boat compared to other scientific boats, colored black and red, but when we first saw Lovis, we thought “oh, it’s small, but very cozy”.

In the beginning we didn’t really speak with one another. It felt strange speaking English all the time, and we were shy. It wasn’t until around 8 o’clock, when dinner was served that the Danish and Swedish students arrived. They all seemed to know each other, and were also hard to talk to, but things changed. As soon as we sat down for dinner, we started to loosen up and we got a little more used to each other.

After dinner we got a short overview of the rest of the trip. Then we said goodnight and went to bed, it had been a quite long day.
