Plans for the travels

This is our last week for packing and sending material to the expedition. Everything is already packed for the Tc-sampling. I will also do quite some work related to the atmospheric concentration and speciation of airborne iodine isotopes. Just like with the 99Tc one of the iodine isotopes (129I) is formed in the fission process and is released by the reprocessing plants. It is however volatile so it may be transported far distances by air, all the way to the Antarctica perhaps. I will anyway collect air samples to find out about this and later we may be able to understand at what rate iodine is transported to this remote place on earth. There are also a lot of practical issues to deal with right now, the Swedish Polar Secretariat have sent out information on routes, travelling and a lot of other things we need to be ready for. Although I am used to cold weather since it can be very cold wintertime in inland China I am glad that the Polar Secretariat have a good supply of clothes for us.
