Keliang Shi - A PhD-student from far away

Hi! My name is Keliang Shi and I am a PhD-student working at DTU (Risoe Campus – Roskilde) in Denmark. My hometown is really Lanzhou in China but I was given the opportunity to make a PhD in Denmark three years ago and decided to try it out. My task is to design analysis of the artificial radioactive isotope Technetium-99 based on mass spectrometry. I like this task since it is well defined and involves a lot of laboratory work and testing of instruments. Apart from the PhD-work I also experiment a little with iodine since my previous fellow PhD-student Violeta Hansen is doing work on this element. At the moment I am preparing for an exciting expedition – I will go to the Antarctic on an ice-breaker expedition! The expedition is mainly devoted to climate research so it does perhaps not sound like my main topic but actually there are some things I can add to this subject! More about this later. Now I’m heading for the lab to do some testing on water samples.
