Day 5 - Speedy tour
07.09.11, 18:40 by Sven Hille (comments: 4)
Our special day started with a surprise: Breakfast at 7:30h! Yeah! HALF PAST SEVEN! It was the beginning of a busy day full of adventures and running noses. Okay, a good start. First we went to Swinoujscie (Swinemünde). Because of the weather conditions we did not take immediately the speed boat to Szczecin (Stettin). We had a short work through the beautiful beach in Swinoujscie. After the cruise around Szczecin Lagoon we went to the department for Earth Sciences of the University of Szczecin. We were divided in three groups and enjoyed a lecture on marine microfossils (diatoms); had an introduction to preparation methods and practical tutorials and we used of microscopy techniques. We also used practical presentations in chemical lab (heavy metals, nutrient’s analysis). Furthermore, we visited the interesting Uni-museum of the Baltic Sea-system. To have a first general impression of the city we went to the top of a hotel building to have a panorama view over the whole city. After the short spare time and full of new knowledge we started our sightseeing tour of Szczecin. We had a wonderful finish of the day. We ate dinner in an impressive Villa, with a huge variety of polish delicious dishes. We returned to Biala-Gora by bus, tired but really happy, because we had a wonderful day.

Hello all of you science campers! Here is a line from a participant of science camp 2010...
Great blog you're running here :) Looks like you've been doing some interesting things... And of course some crazy things too (what did I hear of ketchup poisoning...) Enjoy your free time and spend it togheter!! And feel lucky you didn't have to sail a boat and get seasick on your free time like we had to, though that was a lot of fun aswell :) I hope that you are really enjoying every minute of the week, that you're making friends for life and teaching each other some bad language, haha. Viggo, I really want to learn happy birthday in both polish and lituaninan again, could you fix that please? ;) Big hugs to everybody I might know from last year, Lena, Sven, Martina etc. Viggo; see you monday. And remember, you're having the time of your life, enjoy it the most!
Hugs from Kerstin in Sweden
