Searching the moorings...

From Agnieszka:
After one day in Longyearbyen we continued our expedition to Hornsund Fjord in order to take out moorings (moored current profilers) from water that havr been deployed last year under polish - norwegian project AWAKE (the aim of the project is to describe Arctic Climate and characteristics of the Nordic Seas). This job is usually connected with a little dose of fear and doubts because you never know if the device will be taken out successfully. We spent almost whole day in a cold weather, finding our moorings, starting after breakfast. Two of them are now on a deck. Unfortunatelly not all went well. We lost in the fjord one our device due to line that didn't manage the weight. The buoy which belongs to the Acoustics have not been found as well but we still have a hope to find them next time in Hornsund (for a few days). After all these efforts we went north to the open water to continue our CTD measurements, avoiding one section due to storm (we come back there later). Unfortunately the dead wave reached us and it is really hard to carry on reasearchs. We consider to take the rosette of and live only CTD probe. The ocean doesn't give up but we still have strength to face it with.
