'Forget logistics, you lose' - Lt. Gen. Fredrick Franks

Researchers have to know their limits. Scientific projects are limited by time and funding, equipment works in certain conditions and scientists with their co-operators have to rest from time to time. Forgetting about your disabilities at the beginning of the expedition may lead to mistakes or even cancellation of the whole research. This means, that there may be a situation when you only get “one shot” and you should be prepared to shoot it right.

As I have mentioned it in my previous post, marine sciences offer jobs for wide range of scientists. There are many various scientific fields to investigate both under the sea and on the land.  No matter if you are going to remotely explore depths of the abyssal by a vessel or to climb Greenlandic glaciers, there are similar things to remember while planning it. You have to get there with all permissions, survive, use proper tools, collect data and bring them back safely. In a word it is all called logistics.

I am not here to tell you which airlines are the best or how to travel, but you should remember that it can be one of the most expensive parts of the expeditions. Exotic destinations, many participants, loads of extra luggage, costs of food and hotels, are just some of the reasons. Apart from that, collecting data for analyses may also require all variety of permissions. From local authorities up to army, from natural parks to official ammunition dumpsites, depending where, how, what and when you want to explore.

Have you already arrived at your destination with all the permissions you needed? This is the time to coll... Oh, wait a minute! Are you sure that you brought all that you need to start sampling?

I bet you did, but let me just ask one question. Will it work?
