Meanwhile we are all back home. Our cruise ended on 08.05 in Mindelo (Cape Verde Islands). On that day we finished packing our containers, cleaned the laboratories and had a short walk through the city. In the evening we went all together to a restaurant to taste some of the local food. On Monday the 09th of May we took a tour around the island –it was great. We have visited two different beaches, went with the bus to the highest mountain on the island and got a tour around Mindelo itself. Here we have visited the local fish and vegetables marked, and the guide explained us the city’s history, the architecture etc. Around four o’clock the agent picked us up and we started our trip back home: from Mindelo to Sal than to Lisboa and from there to Hamburg. In the late evening on Tuesday after more than 24 hours “on the road” we finally reached Rostock. I had to go to the institute immediately and take care of the samples, which we brought with us. Yes, we had two big cooling boxes with more than 50 kg of samples with us. Those samples will be keeping me, my PhD students and others for the month to come busy. What is coming next? Soon I will be starting writing the cruise report, analyzing the samples and starting thinking about the next cruise. I will be back in Madeira Basin latest in 2013 to recover the mooring, but my next cruise is taking place much sooner, in December this year (Manila-Hong Kong).
